Season 1 - Episode 5

Curtis Lefthand

For the final episode in this first "string" of episodes on Alberta, we will be exploring the story of a member of the Blackfoot Confederacy here on Treaty 7 land.
Curtis Lefthand is of the Piikani Nation, and does NOT identify as Albertan - nor does he want to. His opinion may just flip everything we've discussed so far on it's head. What is Alberta, really?
Stay tuned this summer for more against-the-grain discussion with real people on "anticulture." Thank you for listening!

Season 1 - Episode 4

Joelle Croteau-Willard

Franco-Albertan...That's a Thing? Welcome to Episode 4, where we explore one of Alberta's most curious minorities - the Franco-Albertan. Our guest is Joelle Croteau-Willard, who has a proud and very Albertan story in the realm of being a Francophone. Joelle's heritage includes one of the first residents of Bonnyville, and on both sides, has prominent chuckwagon racing legacy. She also has a cousin who is a Francophone musician and one who started the Flying Canoe Festival. Learn more about the dynamics, the history, and the people that make up French Alberta - a population of over 80,000 throughout our province.

Season 1 - Episode 3

Matthew Weismantel

This week's episode is a little different - Josiah interviews a relative of his that fits quite snugly into the Albertan "stereotype" - and is proud of it. Some things stated are controversial, but Josiah tries to create a platform where Matt's viewpoints can be considered and weighed equally. Discussion surrounds the farming community of Busby, the Trans-Mountain Pipeline controversy, and a divisive perspective on hard work and the Alexander Native Reservation.

Season 1 - Episode 2

Kayla wardley

This week's episode is a chat with a resident of the elusive "Zama City" - a remote town of only 50-90 residents in Northern Alberta. We explore how culture is shaped here and what ideas of Alberta mean to them. We also explore the history of Albertan settler culture and how "hard work" is an inherent part of it.

Season 1 - Episode 1

Tehillah Chiwele

This week, Josiah chats with Tehillah Chiwele on being in the only family of African descent in the Northern Albertan town of Lac La Biche. We get in-depth about what it means to be Albertan, racism, and even the synergy of two seemingly unrelated cultures.
